Good Readers and Good Writers

Nobokov says "When reading, one should notice and fondle details." I agree with him because
if the reader doesn't focus on the details of the book, they will never comprehend what he/she
is reading. I believe the details in the book makes the book interesting to read. I think a good
reader needs a lot of practice. A good reader has to be able to comprehend everything in what
he/she reads. I also believe a good reader needs to be able to answer questions related to the
piece that person is reading. I think a good reader needs to recognize the tone, plot, and maybe
interpret clues throughtout the text to figure out a problem going on.

I think I am an average reader. I don't really enjoy reading but I wish I could just sit down on
my own and read a book. I have to find a good book that is interesting to me so I want to keep
reading it to find out what is going to happen next. Those kinds of books are the kind I enjoy.  I
can read them very fast and can understand them well. I would like to learn how to become a good reader and I'm hoping this class will teach me to like reading a little bit more.

  1. Hello Amelia,
Very thoughtful bit of analysis. I agree with you as well as Mr. Nabokov's view on the details being important to a readers comprehension. For most of life, The devil is in the details, but for reading the beauty is in the details.

    Thanks,
